Anyone Can Change

If you were acquainted with me during my youth and early adulthood, you would be aware of my aversion to reading. Admittedly, it was a shortcoming that I did not anticipate would define a significant portion of my life. Nevertheless, believing in the potential for change, I made a decision to alter this aspect in late 2022. During a period of frequent travel, I found that passing time on long flights became more enjoyable with a captivating book in hand instead of the hours movies on Delta. Without much thought, I delved into leadership and self-help literature, which unexpectedly sparked a desire to set a new goal for 2023: to immerse myself in reading and document my progress. Reflecting on the past, I realized that between 2000 and 2022, I had only read about 10 books, emphasizing the extent of my aversion to reading. This reluctance stemmed from a mix of rebellion and defiance against my former self.

Fast forward to 2023, and my initial goal was to read 10 books, doubling my achievement from the previous two decades. Surprisingly, reading 10 books proved to be a manageable task once I committed to it. The number soon increased to 15, then 20, and eventually 30. By the end of December, I had completed 32 books for the year, diligently tracking my progress on the Goodreads app and maintaining updates throughout 2024. As of now, I have already read 43 books this year and am striving to reach 50. This transformation has not only expanded my knowledge and insights but has also provided invaluable self-discovery beyond what any book could offer. My journey serves as evidence that change is possible for anyone, enabling them to embark on a new path and become the best version of themselves. I am making up for lost time and nearing the fulfillment of my goal to reach 50 books. At the moment, I have 92 books on my list to read in the future.

The prospects for next year's goal are uncertain, but 2024 has undeniably been a significant year for books, as I have authored 8 of them, with 7 now available on Amazon and Kindle. The upcoming year holds even greater promise for my literary endeavors.
